What a fold is

The world ends at the northern and southern rims, and at 5 places along each of them it does not end so much as wrap. Walk into The Deep Seam on one rim and you walk out of it on the other, 3955 m away, having moved a couple of metres.

The folds were not chosen by taste. Every whole-metre position along both rims was tested and only candidates that were dry land, unblocked and gently sloped on BOTH rims survived; what was left was then sorted by how far the ground disagreed between the two sides, and the flattest of each stretch was kept. This one steps 0.0 m. The far west has no fold at all, because the flattest candidate there would still have been a several-metre drop dressed up as a doorway — the world only folds where it is genuinely thin.
